cf-cache-status: BYPASS on Cloudflare

The AVIF, WebP Converter plugin disables Cloudflare CDN caching by setting the Cache-Control header to “private” in .htaccess file. This causes images to have a “cf-cache-status: BYPASS” when the plugin is activated.

As a footnote to @nicholas2019’s reply:

Please note that to load WebP and AVIF images in a Cloudflare environment, the?Vary HTTP header needs to be enabled in Cloudflare. The support for Vary is only available in a premium Cloudflare plan.

So, for a free plan of Cloudflare which does not support Vary, CompressX will disable Cloudflare CDN caching which will cause ‘cf-cache-status: BYPASS’. But that does not affect display of WebP and AVIF images.

This didn’t stop me from giving my review 5 stars. Your plugin deserves more exposure, I’m advertising it in the communities dedicated to web performance.

Any plan to add a support to Cloudflare Free plan? Maybe you can add it as a premium feature. More than often, LCP is an image, and serving it through Cloudflare helps to reduce TTFB. I guess it’s technically possible, since similar plugins have specific settings for it (for example WebP Express).

Some users may not be aware at all about this limitation. Given that, what do you think about adding a FAQ like “Does it support Cloudflare”?
