I have solved the problem on both sites using the following settings on the Wordfence Options panel:

    1. Check “Use low resource scanning (reduces server load by lengthening the scan duration)”
(by itself this didn’t fix the problem)
    2. Maximum execution time for each scan stage: 20
    3. Update interval in seconds (2 is default) 5

The first of the above settings is also available under the Scan/Options tab.
The other two options are only only available on the main Wordfence Options page.
These were the only settings I tried, so maybe Max execution time of 30 would also have worked.

I agree, it’s not ideal to have to disable important scanning options.
In my case, the scan doesn’t complete unless I disable all three options listed above.

I found the debug switch (under Tools/Diagnostics) but it wasn’t very helpful.
On one test these were the last entries in the Scan Detailed Activity window before the scan appeared to hang, but it doesn’t always hang in the same place.

    [Aug 02 14:05:01] Scanning contents: wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/includes/pipe.php (Size:1336B Mem:38.0M)
    [Aug 02 14:05:02] Scanning contents: wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/includes/rest-api.php (Size:8429B Mem:40.0M)

The three scan options listed in my previous post are still disabled, and I’ve turned off the debugging option to try to avoid going over my usage limits.

I also used the WP Rollback plugin to downlevel Wordfence to 6.3.12 to see if that helped. The scan still hung.

Similar problem: scan never finishes – warning displayed and I have to terminate it

    Scan Failed
The current scan looks like it has failed. Its last status update was 6 mins ago. You may continue to wait in case it resumes or cancel and restart the scan.

Discovered by trial and error that the scan will complete if I disable all of these options

    • Scan file contents for backdoors, trojans and suspicious code
    • Scan file contents for malicious URLs
    • Scan for out of date, abandoned, and vulnerable plugins, themes, and WordPress versions

Obviously I don’t want to leave those scans disabled.

Is there a debugging switch I can set to display which file or directory is causing the problem?

Same problem on 4.8: if I add a text widget to a sidebar I can’t name it or add any content.
I can control it its visibility or position in the sidebar – but that’s useless since it doesn’t have any content.

Accessibility mode wasn’t on, but I tried turning it off and on again just in case. Didn’t help.

I can rename and edit the content of existing text widgets.
Luckily I had an inactive widget that I could drag back to the sidebar and edit.
But I’d like to be able to create new text widgets.

    Any other ideas?

SiteGround hosting has a PHP 7 compatibility checker.
    It reported one problem

    Thank you Denzel.
But that brings me back to my original question:
Is it possible to incorporate the archive-style portfolio list display on a static home page? If so, how?

If I were using Customizr Pro, would that make a difference?

    Thanks for the suggestion.
Would that allow me to display other content on the homepage also, or only the listing of latest posts?

The conflict is because WP-SpamShield also has its own email obfuscation function which is taking precedence on posts/pages viewed by non-logged-in visitors to the site.

WP-SpamShield email protection does not alter the visible appearance of the email address on screen but email addresses in the html code (which does not rely on javascript) are obfuscated.

The solution to the conflict is either

    • use WP-SpamShield only, or
    • use WP Mailto Links and WP-SpamShield and take care to tick the “Disable email harvester protection” checkbox

    Update:
It seems to be an incompatibility between WP Mailto Link and the WP-SpamShield plugin.

I had been using WP-SpamFree with no problems, but I recently replaced it with WP-SpamShield.
WP-SpamShield is an upgrade from the older WP-SpamFree plugin (by the same author).

I will report this in the WP-SpamShield support forum

    Problem solved (I think)

I thought I would try to fix the problem by editing the code of helpers/update.php.
Unfortunately my update broke the WordPress dashboard completely.

So I backed out my change and then as well are restoring the WordPress dashboard, the admin interface to MailPoet started working again.

    Very strange…

So now I don’t know if the issue was caused by a cache not having been cleared or some other factor which has mysteriously gone away.

    My site is back up.
It appears that the redirect issue was due to the Rename wp-login.php plugin, because it disappeared when I disabled that plugin..

That plugin has been superseded by WPS Hide Login.

My site is working again and it seems to have cured the problem I had with dropdowns on MMM when logged on.

This may be due to a conflict with another plugin, that hadn’t been a problem prior to MMM 2.3

I deactivated nearly all my site’s plugins and now the hover intent does work when I’m logged in as admin.
Unfortunately, in the process, access to my site’s admin dashboard is now completely broken (redirect loop).
Until I fix that, I can’t do any work on trying to identify the plugin which is causing the conflict with MMM.

Tom – thanks for a great plugin.

Unfortunately, hover is partially broken for me with the v2.3 update.

Prior to 2.3, hover has been behaving perfectly on my site (including the dropdown not dropping down on hover, as documented, on my wife’s touchscreen-enabled Windows 10 all-in-one pc).

However, since 2.3, when I am logged in with an admin id, and the admin bar is visible at the top of the screen, hover doesn’t work.
In that case, clicking on the menu-bar doesn’t display the drop-down submenu, it takes you directly to the link of the top item. I haven’t found a way to display the dropdown submenu.

I updated my profile setting to disable display of the admin bar (aka toolbar). The dropdown on hover still doesn’t work when I am logged in as an admin, so the problem is not affected by whether or not the admin bar is displayed.

When not logged in, MMM hover still works works as documented.

On Mac OS X Sierra this is repeatable on Chrome, Opera, Safari and Firefox (latest levels of each).

ps I am pretty sure this is not a problem of caching.
My site is hosted by SiteGround which has its own caching plugin SG CachePress, but I have cleared the SG Cache and the browser cache to no avail.
Logged off = dropdown on hover works.
Logged on = dropdown on hover doesn’t work.
