The interesting thing is that I’ve had everything under an SSL certificate and HTTPS for years, so the fact that the images were being uploaded as HTTP is very odd. I’m not quite sure why that was happening and we haven’t gotten to that piece, but I’m glad we figured out what the issue itself was.

    Thanks for your communication!

The Chloe Digital team figured out the issue. They specified the following:

We have fixed the issue of the image not loading in Web Stories. We found that the image URL addresses being served inside the story builder are insecure URLs. Your website's address is using HTTPS and can only make requests to HTTPS for security reasons, this is why the images are getting blocked.

We installed a Really Simple SSL plugin to force all non-HTTPS URLs to redirect to HTTPS. This fixed the issue. Here's a screenshot showing you that the images are now loading.

Is this something any of the other Web Story participants have experienced with the http versus https situation?

    Hi Luckyna,

The Chloe Digital team did some deep diving into the issue too, and sent the following information:

    Hi Adaleta,

We have investigated the issue and found that the issue is related to CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) Server Configuration. This prevents media from being loaded properly. This is a known issue according to the plugin author.

    Please check this screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/feZsPRi4

You can learn more about this issue by visiting the following link from the Google Web Stories plugin: https://wp.stories.google/docs/troubleshooting/common-issues/.

We tried implementing the fix suggestion but for some reason, it did not fix the issue.

We are continuing our investigation and we will keep you posted.

    Kindest,
    CD Support

It looks like the cover images of the last 2 stories are updated to what I was attempting to change them to. For my recent Story adds, it also works now with the Cover Images updating so I think this did the trick!

    Hi Luckyna,

Can you let me know the steps for installing this? I may need Chloe Digital to do this because everytime I try to install anything on my end, it breaks something else on the site so want to make sure I do this right.

    Hi Luckyna,

This issue has not persisted. I created my newest Web Stories this week, and had no issues with the cropping tool this time around. All is running as it should now.

Thank you for your prompt reply!

    Hi Luckyna,

This issue has not persisted. I went in late last week and duplicated the slides in question and then deleted the old slide. When I did this, the spacing issue was resolved so I believe moving forward it should be resolved.

Thank you for your prompt reply!

Thanks for the kind words Luckyna, I’m excited to keep creating stories and appreciate your support on this matter.

    Enjoy your week!

This has now been resolved on our site. My website developer said:

“We investigated here and found that this issue was related to code added to your site’s .htaccess file. We have since removed the code, and the story links are working as expected.”

Thank you for the breakdown of the steps to find the issue. Much appreciated!

    Hi Luckyna,

I have Chloe Digital as my website support, and I’ve told them the specifics of this issue and to please be timely. I don’t feel comfortable with switching to default theme because my design is custom coded within Beaver Builder, and I don’t want to break the entire site by messing with that.

I’m hoping they can take a peek and figure out which redirection plugin is causing this issue. I’ll let you know our findings.

    Hi Pascal,

When I go to Permalink area for each story, do nothing and save, it still doesn’t work. I’ve tried various link changes too just to see if there was a title issue and nothing seems to working. The plugin is also performing super slow for me now too, as when I try to go back to “My Stories” it doesn’t load anything.

I have my web provider also trying to help, and they haven’t been able to find a solution either.

    Appreciate your help.

The only story editor I’m using is Web Stories. In terms of redirection plugins, I do not believe I am using any.

I just submitted the Site Health information privately. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Luckyna!
