I figured it out! Event type was set to “all” although I thought that the free version would only show future events.

Yes, the error is that regular orders can be placed but manual orders cause the payment page to freeze.

Wordpress support is through live chat. I put this question to them and this was their response: So that connection error is an issue on the application end and how secure their connection protocols are. Let me explain. Constant Contact’s connection is being denied because they support older security protocols, so we are blocking the connection.
