Did you try rehashing? (/rehash) as indicated in article below:

I am also trying to do the same and change the msg_max parameter but I cannot find the “index.php” file as indicated in the phpfreechat root directory.
Am running wordpress 3.0.1
Any suggestions or do you have to add the params to the chat and phpfreechat php files?
Any help would be appreciated.
