I have sorted it very simply by checking the box Appearance > Menus > Theme Locations – Navigation menu. I feel rather stupid now!

How can I check that? I have jsut started using wordpress the last 3 days!

I decided to nuke it all and just reset everything. I now have the footer back, but still have the problem with the nav bar not showing category links, or even custom links e.g google.com

How can I add a link in the navigation bar to any weblink I want? Normally it would be Appearence > Menu > Links and then enter your link and text yes? This doesnt display on the child theme but does on the original theme.

The first image shows the problem with the footer, and the second image shows the problem with the menu

I basically need to try and find a way to make a menu item which links to category/X – a link to show the category archives.

Although when I add this border, it pushes the widgets down on to another line, rather than keeping them all on the same line!
