Zopim Chat Function unwelcomed

  • Setting up a new site, I added a couple of normally benign pluggins, only to see a Zopim chat invitation start popping up when I was looking at the site as an unregistered user.

    After a bunch of research, it appears that the problem is rss-post-importer!

    I didn’t see any warning about this in any documentation. Can anyone explain the justification for such a setup? I am debating editing the code or simply uninstalling rss-post-importer, since this will probably return with every patch update.

    1. It would be nice if you warned people about it.
    2. I don’t want my visitors impacted by it, so I will most likely be deleting your plugin.
    3. However, I will wait a bit, to allow you time to fully document on your web site its existence, purpose and impact on site visitors, before I pull the plug.
    4. I would also recommend adding an option to disable it during the 99% of the time when support is not needed, with a simple “click to enable” for the times you may want help.

    I think the chat only runs in your wp admin. public facing users wont see that.

    Your use of the word “I think” points to my request for clear documentation. I will run some tests to see if that is consistently the case. I suspect that I will not “plug the plug” if that is the case.

    Well I assure you that the zopim chat only runs in the admin section and only in rss post importer admin section, so it has no effect on the visitors.
