    Can I turn off zoom image button for the gallery thumbnails and make photo thumbnail linked to some custom link?

    Yes, you can turn off all buttons and other content elements in the gallery hover options. Also, you can enable the option to the entire linked thumbnail to make all thumbnail work as the linked image.
