Hi guys, this is probably going to be a really dumb question, but I’ve recently taken over a upgrading an old website which was previously built by someone else many years ago. There’s a bunch of zip files in the “uploads” section (one of which is almost 1GB!) which look like they are related to the plugins (i.e they have the same name) this isn’t something I’ve come across before since I usually install plugins through wordpress, but I was wondering if anyone knows what they may be for (an alternate install method?) and if deleting the zip files is likely to cause issues.

Like I said dumb question, but it’s so bizarre to me that they are there at all… so I’m worried that the previous dev set up some weird plugin method using the zip files..

    Hi,

It’s certainly not a dumb question. 1 GB sounds like a backup. There are few backup plugins like BackWPup or UpdraftPlus etc. Does this name appear in the plugin or the zip files. Or you could also try searching the name (or a part of it) of the zip on the web to see what plugin might have generated it.

    Regards,
    Karan
