Zip code search unreliable

  • Hello,

    Great plugin!

    Unfortunately, I can’t seem to get consistent results with the Zip code search, for some reason. For example: Zip code 55337 produces no results at any radius, but 55423 does. 55337 has locations directly within it, so I’m not really sure what the issue could be.

    Please advise.

    I can reproduce this on a server, but when I try it locally it works. On the server it’s coming back as some place in Greece. A little off! ‘55337, USA’ works. My guess is that Google is being clever giving different results based on where the request is coming from. Aside from writing something to append ‘, USA’ to queries in the background, I’m not sure how to fix this easily, I’ll have to play with it some more.

    Ok, I think I have something. If I set Settings / Geo Mashup / Google Server Key it works. I was able to use the same key I have for Google API key – that may depend on restrictions you have on that key. Right now if the server key is not set it uses the Nominatim API instead, clearly with less good results.
