    Hi everyone.

I have recently put my new site live using the ZerifLite theme.

I made some changes to the css, just to change background and font colours. Everything seemed fine when it went live but yesterday when I went back online the styles had reverted back to the default colours. I updated the style sheet again and all was fine all day. I then returned to the site this morning and again the styles had reverted back to the default.

Does anyone know why it is doing this? Is there a way to lock the styles down once I have updated it so it doesnt change back?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Mike

  • Hey there,

First of all, did you set up a child theme? And also, try adding !important attribute and see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn’t, add your CSS using Advanced CSS Editor plugin. Hope it helps.

    Hi

    Thanks for your help!

No I didnt set up a child theme, just tweaked the current one. Can you advise what I need to do to set up a child theme? Will it involve setting up my site again from scratch?

    Hey there,

It is not recommended to make modifications to theme’s main stylesheet since they will be lost when theme is updated. To set-up a child theme, please refer to this documentation. Hope it helps.

    Thanks so much for this

Can I make changes to the CSS without creating a child theme. For example, can I use the “CSS Stylesheet Editor” in Appearance in the WP Dashboard?

Sorry if this is a basic question, I am new to editing themes in MP

    Appreciate your help

    Hey Mike,

As I said earlier, you should not make changes to theme’s main stylesheet as they will be lost when theme is updated. Using CSS Stylesheet editor without setting up a child theme is not recommended. The easiest workaround is to install the Advanced CSS Editor plugin and navigate to Appearance -> Customize -> Advanced CSS Editor and put your code there. That should do the trick, and feel free to let us know in case it doesn’t works ??
