• I am a beginner with WordPress planning to blog for a non-profit. I understand that if I copy/past a URL from YouTube into a post, WordPress does the rest, but that’s not what happens. What happens is this: After I copy/paste the URL appears in plain text. When I look at the preview, everything is fine. I go back to save the post, and when I click save, the text CHANGES to a hyperlink. I can un-link it, but each time I do that, it changes back to a hyperlink when I save. Any thoughts?

  • It should stay as a url.

Maybe you are not formatting the url the right way. See this.

    Example format:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

NB this must be on its own line.

If you can’t get it to work, please post the url of your site and the url of the video.

    Hi lorro,

Your suggestion apparently did not help. Here’s the URL of the site and the post:

    https://andymarein.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=27&action=edit&message=10

And here’s the URL of the YouTube video:

Once again, when I copy/paste it into the post, and then click preview, everything is as it’s supposed to be. However, when I click SAVE it turns back into a hyperlink and when I click PREVIEW it displays the hyperlink–not the video. When I return to the draft, I can un-link and it’s fine–and then I click save and it turns back into a hyperlink.

BTW, I tried it with your example: Same thing. Of course, there was no actual video.

The page editor has two modes: Visual and Text. The mode can be switched by two little tabs in the top right corner of the editor box. If you paste a url in Visual mode, it becomes a link, which we don’t want, so for this purpose you need to paste it in Text mode. Hope this helps.
