After updating to the new version of WP, the shortcode I’d been using to embed Youtube videos and playlists — the simple format: [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= …] — no longer works, rendering instead as text. Is there some new parameter I need to adjust in order to have these shortcodes work again?

  • Well, I know just pasting the Video URL directly into the post still works, or putting the URL in as the Source using the Insert/Edit video button.

Never tried a Shortcode for this.

Of course I’ve thought about that option, but generally I have several parameters for the videos set, so I’ve always used the shortcode — and if I have to change every instance in every post, it’s going to be a lot of work … So if at all possible I’d like to get the existing shortcodes working again.

If not too much records and a segment like video = yes, it’s highly possible to manage that in – omg I will advise to use Excel – in a small Excel file. Eg vid = yes or no for that column.

Like yesterday, i advised a good client to send a little loyalty vid for next new year. You manage, but it’s not basically a bad idea. Also, even if I like Flash, it’s a bit out of date now. EG (if client = big –> html 5 SVG card, it’s better than flash). (Idea is suprise).

Just now I see that those shortcodes are working once more. If they happen to be deactivated again later on, I’ll bring it up here.

Well, I spoke a bit too soon. Now, so far as I can see, some of them are working, while others are rendered as text. If any WP staff happen to see this, would you please address the problem?

There’s no WP staff aside from volunteers like you and the rest of us. ??

What are you using for that [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= ...] short code? That is not built into WordPress and has to be added via a plugin. If you can tell us which plugin then we might be able to point you in the right direction.

I was hoping that there would be — given that the problem arose today after the update, and it concerns one of the core functions.

The shortcode I’m using came originally from WP.com — the native way to embed Youtube videos. (See: https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/) It worked perfectly with WP.org — where it seems to be a function of the Jetpack plug-in — until today.

I have sent an e-mail to the Jetpack support service, by the way — but I’m also curious to know if others are running into the same problem. Surely I can’t be the only one to have encountered it today.

    Thanks for that link.

The problem is that your don’t have a WordPress 4.4 issue, it’s something is off with your Jetpack plugin (if that’s what you are using).

Posting in the general forum doesn’t help you, can you please post your Jetpack problem there?

If you do then I’ll close this topic with a link to the real support thread. Posting there will help get the attention of the people who can help you.

Yes, I already posted there — since I am using the Jetpack shortcode module — having been alerted by the poster above.

    hello guys,

if you use the jetpack plugin, it should “preempt” other plugin calls for the current theme, page, website. Though, some functions in php calls might literally be shut down in plugins (not by design, but like every LAMP call, there is a big change like every 5 years and it’s time now for a big update).

Plugins will upgrade in a similar fashion, as most plugin workers do that on their spare time, it will take a little time for adapt/rework the code/design.

    have fun with wp ??

    Hello

@pilar80 Per the forum welcome could you please post your own topic?

It’s the best way to get support for your problem without taking away from the original poster.
