The video was still processing at the youtube site, said it had another 10 minutes, I added the link to a blog posting and page expecting that in both pages the placeholder image would update once the video completed processing. However, this never occurred.

Found a similar forum link on the topic from 2 and a half years ago:

I’ve learned my lesson, I’ll never add to a blog posting or page a youtube embed until its finished processing… but really this seems like something that should be fixable so that it updates once the video is ready.

Can we get this on a backlog somewhere? I think I’m going to have to re-upload the video so that I get a new url to link to … but I’ve already uploaded the video also to linkedin and I hate to have to delete the posting and resubmit it.

k, … I eventually figured out that if I switched the thumbnail at the youtube site and saved the video, then reloaded the wordpress site the image refreshed, and then I could change it back to the previous image and refresh again and it’s now the correct image.

Still though, seems like this should be fixable … by looking at the previous forum posting asking the same question I’m not the first to run into this and doesn’t seem like they figured out the thumbnail trick on the older thread.

    Hi Travis

Thanks for keeping us updated; I’m glad to hear you’ve made progress ??

The steps you’ve taken are the steps I would have suggested. The thread linked above is for a different plugin.

The SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle > SiteOrigin Video Player Widget offers a cover image setting when self-hosting videos. We rely on YouTube or other services to deliver the cover image for externally hosted videos.

All the best with your site. If any SiteOrigin queries arise in the future, please, let us know.

    Cheers, Andrew
