Youtube and Embed blocks don’t seem to be working on my site anymore. They work fine in Edit mode but not in Preview or live modes.

This might be due to a WordPress update since things were working last time I checked–about a month ago?

Video blocks are working normally in Elementor so I’m assuming it’s not a theme issue.

Any ideas for solutions or troubleshooting would be much appreciated.

  • There doesn’t appear to be a general problem with Youtube embeds in Gutenberg. The URL you posted requires a login. Do you have a publicly available post where a Youtube embed is not working?

Woops! I included the wrong link. Here’s the right one: https://naturephotoist.com/ideas-macro-nature-photography/

The Youtube block is inserted about 2/3rds down under “If not, then do yourself a favor and check out this introduction to the art (and introductory course) by legend Dirk Ercken (not affiliated):”

    Thanks for the reply!

I think this is a problem caused by the theme on your site. The embed on your page works fine for me in all the standard core themes. I can see your site has a very custom theme, and this is likely doing something that may be clashing with a change in Gutenberg.

The embed is on your page, but the height is 0 pixels, and so it is not visible. You mention Elementor – is this compatible with the Gutenberg video embed? It might be worth checking with them.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I should have mentioned that I only tested Elementor’s video block on my site, not with Gutenberg.

Anyway, I’ll check with my theme’s forum.

    Thanks for the help!
