• Hello,
I have to make my site GDPR ready. I am not very experienced in this stuff, but I need to know if this plugin sends any user data anywhere? Like the IP adress?

Hi, no, YourChannel doesn’t send anything anywhere. The embedded YouTube player might, but we have no control over it.

    Regards,

Ok, thanks for your answer. Now I have to find out if the Youtube player sends any data. Any idea where I could get that information? Asking Youtube directly is pretty much impossible and the same goes for getting a proper answer on their help forum.

Or wait, better question: Instead of showing the embedded player, can I send my user to Youtube anways? I remember that I tried this earlier, but it didn’t seem to be possible.

And are you aware that this makes your plugin unusable for everyone that has european visitors?
Maybe you should consider adding some sort of opt-in functionality before any videos get loaded. Otherwise you will lose a massive amount of users.
It is important that this happens before anything gets loaded from Youtube.

You can include an opt-in into your site pages instead, or at least the page that displays the YouTube videos. This plugin is created specifically to display YouTube videos, and anything that is fed from YouTube will carry along YouTube GDPR dependencies.

Luckily, it looks like YouTube is gearing up to implement the appropriate measures, and will have an opt-out choice for their European market. You can read more here:

You can send users to YouTube by checking the YouTube checkbox in Style > Show Options > Player section.

What about a new option to include videos not from youtube.com
    but from youtube-nocookie.com ?

I don’t know, I deleted YourChannel and use text links instead.

    Do not fear fellow Youtubers!
    – use Ginger cookie plugin
    – in the custom JS section paste the YourChannel’s js folder url which looks something like this: https://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins/yourchannel/js
    – save
    – done
