I fixed this by deleting a rewriteRule in my .htaccess file which was limiting access to the xmlrpc.php file.

Once the plugin was connected to WordPress.com, I inserted the line back into the .htaccess file, and the plugin still seemed to work fine.

Yes, since it needs to communicate with WordPress.com every time you publish a new post.

If you want to protect your XML-RPC file from unwanted requests, I’d suggest installing this small plugin:

It will disable one of the main methods used by spammers today, while allowing you to use plugins and services that rely on XML-RPC, like the mobile apps or Jetpack.

I get this no matter what I try…and i’ve tried everything listed on this thread…no luck:

I had this issue today. I turned off Cloudflare and tried to register Jetpack again and it worked just fine. Maybe this helps somebody.

I am also having same issue with Jetpack.
