I want to install the Site Kit from Google in my WordPress site. My configuration is: WAMP localhost Windows 10.

This is the error message I received:

Your site may not be ready for Site Kit
Looks like your site is having a technical issue with requesting data from Google services.

Site Kit requires a live (production) site to work, so a WAMP installation will not work as a regular setup.

Once a production site is available, it is possible to install Site Kit on a staging site and display the data from the production site there. You’ll find documentation on how to use this below:
    https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/using-site-kit-on-a-staging-environment/

Why discriminate against wamp? A surprising number of people use it for their live sites.

Is there a way to let sitekit know that wamp is being used as a live environment?

I understand, I use wamp myself. Unfortunately you’ll still need to have a live site for data to be reported on. Search Console, which is the main product used to verify a site can only report on a live Site.

When you say “Live” what exactly do you mean?

Apologies, when I refer to live I mean you must have a site that is live on the internet and accessible to all. It must be connected to Search Console and have traffic. You can then use this data on a staging site using the Site Kit helper plugin.

Well the site matched that definition of “live” then.

It is ok, I managed to get it to work now.

First, I verified the site manually through dns.

Then I clicked Setup Site Kit and received an error.

“cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate”.

I then followed the solutions at the post below and installed the cacert.pem and it works now.

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/29822686/curl-error-60-ssl-certificate-unable-to-get-local-issuer-certificate

I think its very possible that when people get the initial error that was quoted in this post and they are running wamp, the solution will be to simply follow that blog post. But i thought I’d let you know that I verified the site via dns and also set up their ssl beforehand just in case it was in fact a part of the solution.

That’s good to know, many thanks for the valuable feedback. In relation to updating the documentation I’ll bring this up in a team discussion. As the setup steps may be considered advanced for the average user I can’t say for certain we’ll provide specific instructions, but I’ll certainly make the suggestion, which may also benefit others.
