    Hello all together,

I am facing a strange behavior with the health check plugin. In the dashboard, it shows me that the status of the page is good (green) but with two items to improve.

    – an inactive theme (OK, I’m testing a bit, so no worries at the moment, I think)
    – the message “Your site is not using localized timeszones”

Now when I click on “Update your site timezone”, it leads me to the general options of WordPress. There in the timezone, “UTC+1” is set along with date format “j. F Y”, time format “H:i” and “Monday” when the week starts.

Since my page is a German page, I think the setup is OK.

What I want to say is: Everything is set correctly. So why is there this message? And how can I solve it? This leads to confusion, you know?

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,
    Henning

    Hiya @collapsing_os,

My apologies for the long wait.

So what this message means, is that you are using the UTC+# for the timezone section, this means you will for example, currently, have to change it manually depending on daylight savings time (which we all know is frustrating and bothersome).

Previously, WordPress only offered the UTC offset (as it’s known as) to define the timezone, but a better approach now exists where you declare what City/Region your timezone belongs to. In the same selection dropdown as you’ve selected UTC+1, you should also be able to find one called Berlin/Europe (I think that’s what it is called for Germany, you should be able to recognize the right one at least), which will automatically account for time changes, and has better compatibility with other code around the web ??

    Hi Marius,

yes, “UTC+1” is already configured, like always. Unfortunately, there is no setting for “Berlin/Europe”. I’ve learnt from another topic that some settings are invisible and using the default settings until they are setup from the wp-config file. Is there anything like this regarding the location that I can look for? The other topic was the uploads folder which is set to “wordpress/uploads”. If you want to change it, you cannot do this with the settings. Is there something like this for the location?

No, the timezone setting is found under Settings > General in the menu of wp-admin.

    I do see Berlin in there though;

Oh, wow, I must have been blind. Never found the time setting per city. I always thought, it’s only hour-based. Thank you very much. Of course, this solved my issue.

    Thanks and Cheers

Fantastic, happy to hear you figured it out! (and hopefully you’ll have a much smoother experience with your dates and times as a result ?? )

    Hello.

Could a case be made to exempt UTC from being categorized as a ‘manual offset’? After all, WordPress does have a ‘UTC+0’ manual offset, independent of the ‘UTC’ entry in the drop-down list:

@clorith , do you think an exception could be made for UTC (as it isn’t a manual offset)?

For reference, this is being addressed as a GitHub issue.
