Your site has no hreflang tags

  • Hello,

    I just noticed that Google search console is giving our site a “Your site has no hreflang tags” error. We’ve been using Polylang as our multilingual plugin for more than a year now and I only just noticed this error. We’ve set English and Finnish as our languages.

    The Merkle tool is giving me an error for the Finnish version, which doesn’t seem to be indexable because there is a “non-self-referencing url in html”. Anyone has any idea on how to fix this?

    An update to this: the site seems to have the hreflang tags but apparently they are so far down in the html code that Google isn’t able to find them. Any idea how I could move them higher?

    A note to the Polylang developers: you simply need to update your plugin so that the hreflang tags will be higher up in the page html.
