I updated to WP 5.5 a few days ago before starting some routine editing of a small website I created (in 2018) and manage for owners (including me) of a type of small sailing yacht.

The first page I tried to edit opened with an error message ‘Your site doesn’t include support for the “fl-builder/layout” block….’. I have never seen this before. I have no idea what it means. Why doesn’t the site include support? What do I need to do to get it to support the block? Why has it become a problem when it wasn’t before?

Other pages open ok with the Classic Editor active.

I have wasted a few days trying to get to the bottom of this myself and now some help would be greatly appreciated.

I have 50 years experience of scientific computing, including a PhD in computational hydrodynamics, but am a relative novice in website content management systems.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Thank you for that suggestion. I installed Health Check which disabled all plugins and switched to Twenty Twenty. When I attempted to edit the problem page the error message was exactly the same as before.

Is there a way I can submit the screen snip that I took of the entire message?

By the way when I installed Health Check I was warned that it had not been tested with my version of WP (5.5).

That’s odd, something somewhere is calling for a “fl-builder/layout block” which is not part of core WordPress.

I think you’ll need to check again, but the more manual way.

I was having the same issue, attempting to switch a site over to Elementor. Here’s what it is and what you can do.

First, Beaver Builder leaves this code on every page (top & bottom):
    <!– wp:fl-builder/layout –>

If you’re attempting to change page builders, etc. make sure to deactivate Beaver Builder. Then, click ‘edit’ on a page.

Click the 3 dots [more tools & options] (next to the settings icon in Gutenburg) and choose Code Editor. From there, you can delete the string <!– wp:fl-builder/layout –> on the top and bottom of pages and Save.

Thanks for the steer. Got part of the way but the error message I originally reported appears instead of an editor opening. Only options are “Leave page as it is”, “Delete block” or “Convert to HTML”. So I did the last of those and opened the HTML editor. Couldn’t see the Beaver Builder code to delete but there was a “Save as block” option so I tried that. The new block has a rudimentary editor which enabled me to make the changes I needed to make. So mission accomplished albeit in an unsatisfactory way. Now just need to sort out all the other affected pages and look for a better editor. Thanks again.
