Hi there, recently I have been getting this message on the Site Health Status page – “Your site could not complete a loopback request”

At the bottom, it says this – “The loopback request returned an unexpected http status code, 404, it was not possible to determine if this will prevent features from working as expected.”

When I disable the Shield Security plugin, it goes away.

I’m on the latest WordPress v5.6 and latest plugin v10.1.5.

Any ideas on how I can fix it?

    Hi,

    Sorry to hear that.

Can you try the following, please:

    1) Check your Audit trail to see if Shield is blocking anything

    2) Use forceoff method to keep Shield active and retest to see if it still happens.

Let us know how it went.

    Thanks.

    Hey there!

Thanks for getting back to me.

I tried your suggestions and here’s how it went:

    1) I checked the audit trail and it’s not blocking anything.

    2) The error message goes away when it’s in forceoff mode.

    Thanks for your help.

Have you used the rename login feature under the Login Guard?

I’m using the hide login page feature (renaming the login URL) if that’s what you mean.

    Yep, that’s what I meant.

There’s a small issue whereby a 404 is reported as the loopback request in WordPress is trying to access the WP Admin… but since it’s effectively hidden with our rename feature, you get a 404.

There isn’t a problem on the site or with Shield, but to clear this up we’ll be releasing an update shortly.

    Thanks!
