Your server only has X GB of disk space left – problem?

    I have just been shown this warning in the admin for a site with quite of lot of image assets, warning that there is only 9GB of space left, and I’m not given any backup options.

    While this may be a problem if I wanted to backup the whole site, I have BackUpWordPress configured to only do database backups in which case this amount of disk space should be plenty adequate – it’s not a massive database, an SQL export is around 70MB!

    In this scenario I’m assuming it is still checking that there is enough disk space to backup the whole site, but this is a problem as I don;t have an option just to backup the database which is all I need to do.

    Do these checks need adjusting so they only apply if you have full backups configured?
    Even if I had full backups configured, I may still want to just backup the database but currently there is no option – I only get the disk space message on the page.

    The developers added in that error handling in one of the last updates so that folks would have a clear indication if there were issues, but they did see that there were cases in which all use of the plugin shouldn’t have been blocked. They are reviewing this over on Github: https://github.com/humanmade/backupwordpress/issues/1030

    I added a note there specifically about your issue and will update you when we have more news on a resolution, okay?

    Hi Kat,

    Yes, this is still an issue I am experiencing.

    Basically, I have this issue on a big WordPress site with lots of media and also (seperately) a some Multisite installations.

    I have the multisite configured to just backup the database which is actually quite small – plenty of space on the server for that, it’s just the uploads directory which is massive.

    However, when I try to do the database backup it says “Your server only has 9 GB of disk space left which probably isn’t enough to complete a backup.”

    So even though I am only trying to do a database backup, it must be assuming I’m trying to backup everything if it thinks that 9GB is not enough space.

    Once that message appears, it persists and I cannot get back to the main backups screen without rolling back the plugin to a previous version.

    Thank you for checking back in. I’m noting this for the developers and they might have further questions.

    Can you also tell me – if you deactivate and then reactivate the plugin, are you able to (even briefly) access the settings page at all?

    If not, then it’s taking the default backup schedules (and file size of the files or complete backup) and saying there’s not enough room. I might have a workaround for that, if that’s the case. Can you check for me?

    Hi Kat,

    I just tried enabling support to review what information it would send but it failed to load the popup on my multisite install.

    I think the reason was it is try to load AJAX from https://example.com/wp-admin/network/admin-ajax.php instead of from https://example.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php (without the “network” in the URL)

    I am experiencing this same issue. My backup is only 700mb.

    Your server only has 20 GB of disk space left which probably isn’t enough to complete a backup. Try deleting some existing backups or other files to free up space.

    Any progress on this?

    I have same issue till I am using Version 3.6.2.

    Getting message : Your server only has 8 GB of disk space left which probably isn’t enough to complete a backup. Try deleting some existing backups or other files to free up space.

    but I have enough space now.

    Any solution ?

    Hey there @sanjay-devrepublic – did you see if updating the plugin helped your situation out? The 3.6.3.1 update should have fixed this bug. Let me know what you find.
