I built and maintain many WP sites using WF and have never had a problem. However for this site (mainesilc.org) WordFence keeps blocking me when I try to login with my admin credentials.

    Exact reason: Block Technical Data
Block Reason: You have been temporarily locked out of this system. This means that you will not be able to log in for a while.

I’ve used the UNBLOCK EMAIL to get it (successfully) three times, but I keep getting blocked.

I’ve looked through the documentation and am not seeing a solution other than to disable “advanced blocking” – Is that what I do? All of my other Wp with WF work fine and this has never happened before.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • This will happen if you’re using Wordfence’s recaptcha feature and using a login page other than the WordPress login.

Thank you Jim, but this is using the standard /wp-admin login page and no captcha. I’ve just changed the PW and added 2FA in hopes of stopping this. We’ll see…

Hello @jebswebs and thanks for reaching out to us!

When you do log back into your site after being blocked, go to Tools > Live Traffic and see why you were blocked. What does the block message say here?

This could be possibly a setting in your Brute Force Protection settings that might need to be altered. I’ll wait to see what the block message is though before we change anything.

    Thanks!

It looks like it somehow it blocking all of Canada! But weirdly, my IP is not in Canada. My hosting company can’t figure it out either and suggested uninstalling WF until this can be figured out.

    Any suggestions?

I am wondering if this is an issue with IP detection.

Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

I’ll be able to review your settings for IP.

    Thanks!

Thank you. I just sent it.

    Thanks for sending that @jebswebs

Looks like it is an IP detection issue.

Navigate over to All Options > General Wordfence Options > How does Wordfence get IPs. Change this option to X-Real-IP. This should fix your issue.

What was happening was your site was set to think everyone had the same IP. Using the X-Real-IP will correct that issue and display the real IP of each bit of traffic.

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!

That seems to have fixed it. Hopefully we are all good now.

    Many thanks.
