• Ok NextGen has been downloaded over 8 million times so I’m sure this setup should be easy to do and something out of the box. Blowed if I can figured it out.
I have a simple bare bones family site using Twentythirteen, NextGen and Jetpack. That’s it.

I want to set up the display for a slideshow and a picture list of each gallery. Slideshow displays via Ajax inside the content area OR I can view a single photo inside the content area so family members can comment on an individual photo.

I’m unable to even get the slideshow to work.
Does anyone have some clues they can help me with please?

    Thank you
    Martin

  • Martin have you uploaded pictures to a gallery? Or is this where you are stuck? I will attempt to give step by step details.

    1. Click the green square to drop down nextgen options
    2. Click Add Gallery/Images
    3. You will see Gallery and a drop down box with create a new gallery in it. To the right of it you can type a name for your gallery. Do so…
    4. Click add files and you can open a pictures folder. Select images. Then click the start upload button.
    5. For now don’t worry about an album. Once complete you should see thumbnail images down below.
    6. Create a page(you could also select one but lets keep it simple)
    7. Once you have created a page and typed a title you see the area where you can type text, insert media. What you need to look for is above the box there is a row of small icons. You can hover over them(look far right top row) You will see NextGen Gallery Add to post.
    8. Click it and you should see a picture appear. Now just update your page and preview. If all went well you should see the gallery. Of course there are options for which type of gallery you want but I left all that out to keep it easy for the first time. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for assistance @melherndon
I’m good to upload other than via my ipad which is another problem with NextGen. Got photos and Gallerys already at https://photos.cooney.com.au/pics

I don’t want Lightbox as family members are unable to comment, on an individual photo basis.

    Any ideas?

No we had tried elegant themes but had so much trouble just getting the customization right we asked for a refund. Perhaps a different gallery plugin would allow more flexibility?

Thanks for your help anyway, Mel.
Sad to see NextGen nosedive so hard. I can’t really believe their blurb that there are many people happy with v2 – this is basic stuff that doesn’t work on a vanilla WP with nothing else running.

I agree as the 2.0.17 version won’t disable “show picture list” from our homepage even though it is disabled. I shudder to consider upgrading to 2.0.18 when .17 is still in my opinion beta. We have gone to photocrati theme and they have their own twist on photo galleries. The theme is 89 USD but you can have up to 60 theme variations(15X4 each)

I’m totally forgetting about NextGen v2 – I’ve wasted far too many hours on what should be a simple config.

Rolled back to 1.9.13 and all is good again in the world. Great version and easy to use.

Out of more than 8 million users, I’m sure Photocrati has at least 100 satisfied v2 users ??

What a shame they screwed the pooch so so bad.
