    I have a similar problem as some of the other forums. I’m trying to import a file that definitely ends with a .wie, but I keep getting the message “You must upload a .wie file generated by this plugin.”. I tried deactivating all of my other plugins and then trying to import but that didn’t work. The .wie file is supposed to be widgets from a theme. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi everyone, i also use wordpress 4.7.1 and got the exactly same issue when updated 4.7.1
    Disable Real MIME Check – Active —> Go back upload .wie —> Worked.

    Some very smart folks are working on a permanent solution so I will probably just wait for WordPress 4.7.2 rather than implementing a workaround directly into Widget Importer & Exporter. It’s a WordPress problem affecting uploads in general so is best of resolved in WordPress core.

    This is not working for Shapely theme. This is the error message when import widgets:

    @righi That message is unrelated to the issue this thread is about.

    What you’re seeing means your theme does not register the widget area that the widget expects. The widget was probably exported from a site using a different theme (and therefore having different widget areas – widget areas are theme-specific.

    Check the Inactive widgets area at the bottom left for your widget. You can then drag it into one of the widget areas that your current theme offers. Open a new support thread for this issue if you need further help. Thank you.

    I am on 4.7.2 and still having this issue. When I click on the .wie file to upload I get the message saying “You must upload a .wie file generated by this plugin // I have tried it with and without the “Disable Real MIME Check” plugin installed. Neither works.

    Can confirm on 4.7.2 – with and without “Disable Real MIME Check” plugin installed and active I’m seeing the “You must upload a .wie file generated by this plugin” error. It’s shame they didn’t get this fix in 4.7.2

    Any other ways around this? Much appreciated. ??

    I am on 4.7.2 and still having this issue.

    Try version 1.4.3 of Widget Importer & Exporter (released 14 hours ago), it should work with WordPress 4.7.2.

    It might still have an issue with WordPress versions other than 4.7.1 and 4.7.2 (the MIME type checking issue currently affects the latest releases in older branches as well), as it negates the effect of “Disable Real MIME Check” plugin, see my comment in another thread. The fix is easy, so hopefully this will be resolved soon as well ??
