• I have a site working on and I want to update the core files. Even though the site is at 4.3 and the new version is at 4.4.2, I don’t see a prompt to update notification. Instead it says “You have the latest version of WordPress. Future security updates will be applied automatically.”

And then there is buttons for re-install and download-.

Now I wonder if there is some conflict that I don’t see automatic update button, or using Re-insatll button does an update automatically too?

I have never used the Re-insatll button in the past, is it the same as automatic update or does it install a new version and overrides all my wp-content folder and config.php as well?

Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated!

If you are seeing that message, it sounds like your site has automatically been updated to version 4.4.2. Could you please provide a link to the website so we can take a look?

The re-install button will re-install the current version of WordPress; this will not overwrite your wp-content (where all your files are stored) or wp-config.php (the settings for your site).

Does that help? If not, just let me know.

    Hi Geoffery, thanks for response!

The url is https://www.zalkin.com/. The site is running 4.3 because on the home page of dashboard it says: WordPress 4.3 running ….. theme.
It needs an update but no link to automatic update! only Re-install and download.

So you say the Re-install button is safe to use? I usually use the automatic prompt link with no problem. I don’t want to manually update this site. But if the Re-insatll does the same maybe it is the way to go.
    What do you suggest? ??

Sorry for the delay in response! It looks like your site has updated automatically, as it is showing version 4.4.2.

The Re-install button is safe to use. I’ve used it several times for various reasons and not had any issues with it. In your case, I don’t think you need to use it now, though.

My suggestion is that your work is done (for now) with the core updates ??

Thank you very much Geoffrey. I found out the theme had a conflict and by changing the theme to a default twenty-eleven, the update button showed up and I updated the site and then reactivated the theme.

But it is great to know that re-install button is safe to use as well.

Geoffrey, can you do me a favor please? Since you are a moderator, would you be able to take out the website name/url I sent in the last post please?

Thanks again. I think we can close this thread as resolved.
