• Hello,
This plugin was my best one in its kind, especially with the ability to block spam emails, but I believe after releasing the 4th version, many problems come with it, but the worst is when it blocks users or even the webmaster from visiting the website while displaying the error message I put in this post title:

You have been blocked from visiting this site by WordPress Zero Spam

It happened to me while trying to visit a website client via VPN, and one of my client was blocked from his MAC laptop when he tried to visit his website using Safari browser! I don’t even understand why a plugin that should be used just to block spammers via comments or contact forms, why it tries to block some users from visiting the whole website? I think this is a job for Security plugins not anti-spam ones.
Now I’m forced to disable this plugin from all my clients website and mine too, because we don’t want visitors to be blocked from visiting websites. Please try to fix this big problem, and let the plugin do its job just like before.
    Thank you.

Like I’ve said in the numerous emails you sent, that I replied to, if the IPs are blocked there’s a reason. If you want to unblock an IP, you can do that in the admin. If you want to whitelist an IP, you can also do that in admin.

What do you mean by this? Because I haven’t sent you any email before, and this is my first post about that problem. I think it is not convenient to block or whitelist an IP, because we don’t know which visitor is blocked or not, so I think the good solution is to let the plugin block only while sending comment or email when it is a spammer, as blocking from the whole website it is not his job as I said. I believe it is an anti-spam plugin and not a security one.

and I don’t know why the post is marked as resolved while the problem still exists.

    Hi all, same problem here!

If you’re are getting blocked, it’s because your IP triggered a spam detection. To remove the block, all you need to do is log in (via the WP login page, those requests aren’t blocked) and then find your IP in either the Blocked IPs list or the Blacklisted IPs list.

If in the Blocked IPs list, is because your site detected the spam.

If in the Blacklisted IPs list, it’s because your IP appears in one of the third-party spam blacklists (StopForumSpam, BotScout).

You can add your IP to the whitelist field in order to prevent your IP from being blocked in the future.

Thank you for your reply, but I think you don’t understand yet the real problem I mean and I’m facing (and I believe it is the same for many others). I’m not looking for a way to unblock me because I can do it, but the real issue for me is what to do if the plugin block normal users too as it blocked me? Because it may happen to other visitors of my website as it happened to me, especially after one of my clients contacted me because it was blocked from visiting his own website by the plugin, so this is the real problem and not how to unblock someone, as we can’t guarantee that only spammers are blocked. Visitors don’t care if their IP addresses are listed on third-party spam blacklists or not, so they will leave the website. I’m just asking to make the plugin working like it was before version 4 while it was doing only his job very well: blocking spammers from commenting or mailing, that is it, but now it is blocking spammers and normal users from visiting the website, and this is not its own job as an anti-spam plugin.
I hope you understand my real problem with this issue, because it is because of it I was forced to deactivate the plugin from all my and clients websites until this issue if fixed.

I understand it very clearly and as I stated before, you’ll need to find an IP that’s getting blocked (that you believe shouldn’t be) in one of the lists to determine why they’re getting blocked. That will give you more info about why they’re getting blocked (i.e. user has JS disabled, appears in a global IP blacklist, etc.). If you can provide me that info, I can help you understand what’s happening and potentially how to fix it.

If I can’t replicate something, I can’t fix it. With over 30,000+ active installs and only 2 or 3 people saying this is an issue, my guess is it’s something with your setup, a plugin or theme conflicting with the way things work.

But again, happy to look into, but need more info & need to be able to replicate.

Version 4, works the exact same way as 3, just cleaner code.

I totally agree with Abdelhadi Touil. I myself uninstalled the plugin because I do not want it to block visitors from seeing my website! If Mr. Marshall would only read again what Mr. Touil is saying. I consider it to be a real shame if a visitor of non-malicious intent is blocked from visiting my site due to Zero Spam plugin. The only way I know how to prevent that is to uninstall the plugin. Too bad.

    Hey guys,

I have the same problem with one visitor.

The IP is on the Black List:
    Service: Stop Forum Spam
    Appears: 1
    Frequency: 86
    Confidence: 56.94%
    api: “stopforumspam”

In this thread I don’t want to post more information about IP address.
    What information do you need?

The website was in maintenance mode and yesterday the side going live. So it’s the first case of a visitor who can’t see the site.

    @bmarshall511 clean install.
Plugins(reduced to the plugins that are in all our sites with that problem):
    – Contact Form 7
    – Yoast SEO
    – WordPress Zero Spam

Admin get blocked on first attempt, with reason “cf7 (auto-blocked)”
IP of admin is not global balcklisted.

How is it something good to block people after one attempt?
(if they are not on a global blacklist)

I am just a regular customer and I wanted to check out this skateboarding website. For some reason I am blocked due to ZERO SPAM. I have never even been to that website in my life before. I have no way of accessing either, such a shame they lost my business

It is a real problem that forces me to not use this plugin anymore. Just recently, one of my customers told me that she isn’t receiving comments anymore for a long time, when I checked her website and tried to post a comment I was blocked by this plugin, so I have deleted it and used another one, and now she told me that everything is fine. This is just one case.
This plugin was excellent before releasing version 4, when this problem started to appear.
