"You have already participated in the poll"

First of all, a big THANK YOU. I have tried many survey tools (free and premium) and for our purposes, this is the best so far.
I am having one issue though, which I’m hoping you can help me with. Some first time participants are receiving the message “You have already participated in the poll”, even though they have never seen it, nor appear in the results.
I’m wondering what the plugin relies on to decide if a visitor has taken the poll before? And if there is anything I can reset at on a user level? (Thanks to our PKI plugin, all of our site visitors are also members – so all are in the user table).
The site I’m referring to is our company intranet. It has no internet access, so unfortunately I cannot send you a link to refer to. Most of our users are on thin clients.
Your help on this would be greatly appreciated.
