Though the free plugin is very nice, the pro is not stand-alone and comes with surprises. First you get hooked into a Hub that is basically a service to steal your privacy and a netfish to get you off your host. Second, the plugin needs 4 addons to function as one would expect. So you end up with yet another backend filled wih unecessary stuff. I mean, is it so hard to build a plugin with everything it needs in one box?

I had heard about the WPMU bad politics, now I can see it myself. Very disappointed, I just needed a plugin, not a spy inside my website.

Btw, you also get an error right away: “E_ERROR caused in line 1282 of file /…/plugins/wpmudev-updates/includes/class-wpmudev-dashboard-ui.php. Message: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded

All in all, I don’t call that “a smoot upgrading to pro”.

    Hi @devsaredead

I hope you are doing well, thank you for the feedback.

Let me cover all the points so we are on the same page.

First you get hooked into a Hub that is basically a service to steal your privacy and a netfish to get you off your host.

We take security and privacy as a serious subject, the HUB / WPMU DEV dashboard will connect your site to the API releasing the Forminator Pro features and updates, the dashboard plugin is also used to grant support access without sharing any credentials.

Furthermore, we don’t have a single-plugin membership that said with your membership you are getting all the Pro plugins.

    You can find more on:
    https://wpmudev.com/docs/privacy/privacy-policies-procedures/
    https://wpmudev.com/docs/privacy/security-policies-and-procedures/
    https://wpmudev.com/docs/getting-started/getting-support/#is-it-secure

” So you end up with yet another backend filled wih unecessary stuff.”

The only necessary plugin to get started is the WPMU DEV dashboard, which is the bridge between your site and the API. But note, when you add the site via HUB we recommend a few of our plugins but we don’t force any installation, those are recommendations and can be skipped via the interface.

“ff. I mean, is it so hard to build a plugin with everything it needs in one box?”

Having an all-in-one plugin will just make it heavier, some people may not need the PDF module so this doesn’t need to be enabled, some others will require it but not subscriptions.

The Addon is a good proactive to keep the core plugin lighter as possible and allow our members to decide what they want to install.

Btw, you also get an error right away: “E_ERROR caused in line 1282 of file /…/plugins/wpmudev-updates/includes/class-wpmudev-dashboard-ui.php. Message: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded“

This error means the maximum execution time is too low, even though we don’t have a min required max execution time https://wpmudev.com/docs/getting-started/wpmu-dev-minimum-requirements/ we suggest 120s+ as 30s is too low.

You can fix the issue by following this guide: https://wpmudev.com/blog/increase-memory-limit/

Note, that the WPMU DEV dashboard is a Pro plugin and we have a dedicated 24/7 team: https://wpmudev.com/hub2/support if the issue persists kindly create a ticket there and I hope we can convert it into a 5-stars experience.

    Best Regards

It’s mostly psycological, isn’t it? Seeing your dashboard being bloated with menus and plugins whereas you try to do everything possible to keep it at minimum, it just makes you very uncomfortable. Not to mention the mandatory need to subscribe to yet another platform/service. It’s a business conduct that I hope will end soon… and I think people are running more and more away from all this. I favour the “one-payment-one-item” model, therefore I will keep my rating as it is. Thank you for your attention anyway. ??

PS. I shall open a ticket right away, because I do have major conflicts with Woocommerce as soon as I enabled WPMU. By the way, my memory limit was already at 1024M/60sec, so I actually don’t understand why the error appeared

We understand, as mentioned WPMUDEV dashboard plugin is not something that can use a lot of resources unless something else is causing a code conflict, at this moment we don’t have any known conflicts with Woocommerce so that is odd.

We have brought your review to the attention of our moderator for consideration.

Maybe the limits are overdriven by some server configuration, you may double-check the limits in wp-admin -> tools -> site health -> info -> server because the error explicitly mentioned your max execution time is 30 seconds and in general that doesn’t mean the WPMU DEV dashboard plugin is causing that error, it could be due to lack of hosting resources that is related to a combination of plugins.

    Kind Regards,
    Amin
