Hello, I’m seeing an error “You can’t give users that role” when trying to edit any user while Multiple Roles in activated. The error appears when I click “Update User” even without having made any actual changes to the user. The error redirects me to /wp-admin/user-edit.php. When I deactivate the plugin I can edit the user successfully.

I’m using Capability Manager Enhanced to create and delete roles which I’ve pasted below. I have also deactivated this plugin as a test with no success.

    • Administration
    • Administrator
    • Associate Professor
    • Editor
    • Faculty
    • Graduate Student
    • No Role
    • Others
    • Postdoctoral Scientist
    • Professor Emeritus
    • Research Assistant
    • Research Associate
    • Senior Leadership
    • Undergraduate Student
    • Visiting Scholars

The user in question does have 2 roles; however, I tested trying to save just 1 role which also triggered the error.

I’m happy to run any tests to help troubleshoot the issue. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have the same error too. ;). Without any Capability Manager.
Thank you for help in advance!

Today when I tried to edit a user I not only got the aforementioned error message but also “Notice: Array to string conversion in /../../../wp-includes/formatting.php on line 1025”.

Initially the user was not assigned any active roles but I do see
    Additional Capabilities
    Capabilities: subscriber

What’s interesting is that I have deleted the Subscriber role. Without making any changes to the user I updated the user successfully. When I tried to assign an active role I received the error.

    Hope this help!

    Hello,

Sorry for this bug that was introduced in 1.1.2 version. I have pushed a new released tagged 1.1.3 to fix this issue.

Please tell me if you encounter bugs in user creation in a non multisite website too.
