• I’m using CF7 upload file extension facility and it works perfectly in Opera but in Firefox it doesn’t display the icon properly and in Chrome it says “you are not allowed to upload files of this type.”

I’ve given permission for.docx files to be uploaded but it still won’t let me on Chrome.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

OK so I’ve managed to send a png file through chrome just now. I added “png” to the file types. I still can’t send docx though. Not sure why?

But if I’m able to send png and not docx, does that make it any clearer?

Sending jpeg also not a problem. Seems just docx

and the issue with it not displaying the “select file” icon properly in Firefox.

Are you sure you are trying to upload .docx files, and not .doc files? Try adding doc as a filetype.

Definitely docx files but I added doc and still didn’t work

Unless Microsoft have other file extensions which I don’t know about. But it says.docx after the files in Word.

Something to bear in mind. When I uploaded png it let me send it even though I hadn’t added png to list of allowed file types. So, I don’t know much about html, but is it a possibility that something in CF7 html won’t allow docx files?

I can even add mp4 files and mp4 is not even listed on the tag allowed file types

So that allowed file types doesn’t appear to have any effect.

There are over 5 million installs of Contact Form 7. If only 10% allow .docx file uploads (a very common file format) that’s around half a million sites (including 2 of mine). As the support forum is not flooded with support requests for this issue, you can be 99.9% sure that the issue is down to your unique setup: hosting and/or theme and/or plugin configuration.

So you need to dig around and find out why by a) checking your error logs, and b) disabling ALL other plugins AND activating a WordPress theme to test for conflicts. It might also be worth reaching out to your host to see if they have any server-level security rules such as ModSec that are blocking this type of upload.

Thanks. I’ll try but I’m kinda on the verge of giving up. If you guys can access it OK, and send files OK, it must be a server or some other issue. But I don’t need to access that part of the site for myself, it is s only for others and they don’t seem to have problem accessing it from their end. I’ll try a few more things but after that it’s probs too much effort. Thanks for all your help anyway.

What I absolutely don’t understand, is why it’s letting others send docx files, and not me. Odd. So that leads me to conclude that there is some issue with my phone, or browser. Because if it was a WP issue, you guys wouldn’t be able to send docx either, but you don’t seem to have a problem. I received all the test text ” docx” files you sent. So it can’t be plugins or anything. Unless you’re sending the test files from a PC.

In which case it might be a responsive issue if you experience the problem on your phone too.
