Hello, I am using Yoast free version.
The problem is Yoast’s default meta desc for all pages and post (under admin panel, SEO -> Search Appearance -> Content Types). I wanted to put %%excerpt%% and automatically shows meta description picked up from contents, but it doesn’t work. Not just this, simple text like “hello”, “it is meta desc” also do not work.

However, custom meta desc using Yoast plugin integrated in WordPress Elementor for each pages works.

How do I fix that it can make default meta descs for all pages?
    Thank you very much

    Hi @online0227

We understand you’re trying to use the default meta description template but it’s not working as expected.

Just to clarify, if you edit a post or page and set a specific value for the meta description, that will take priority over the default that is set in the Search Appearance section.

So if you leave the meta description field blank in the specific post or page edit, it should then use the default set in the Search Appearance section.

Would it be possible for you to provide us with a screenshot of what variables you’ve used in the Search Appearance section for your posts or pages (via snipboard.io or a similar site), and a sample URL of one of these posts or pages so we can see what the meta description output is in the page source?

Hello, it’s all empty in the meta description of Elementor’s Yoast setting, while I put “test meta” in admin dashboard’s Yoast SEO setting. But still, in the page corresponding to those images, it does not show any meta description in the source view of that page. It only show meta description if and only if I put something in the meta description of Elementor’s Yoast setting. Anything written in admin dashboard’s Yoast SEO setting are ignored.

    Thank you very much.

Sorry, solved. The problem was multilingual setting separated. I was setting in different language mode.

One more thing to add is that it doesn’t save the setting per language. if you set yoast’s setting in one language, and you switch to another language and save specific setting for that language in Yoast, it will ignore saving 2nd setting for 2nd language: Yoast won’t save per-language global SEO setting.

Switching to global language and save yoast’s setting to work for global (all) language will work globally. This looked like a solution to me for multilingual setting for seo behavior of Yoast.
