yoast seo word count in 2.4.0 not working

since the latest update the word count in the yoast seo content analyses does not count words in custom fields anymore.
i.e. for a post that has 500 words in the default editor (gutenberg is off) and 500 words in custom fields, it used to count 1000 words. since the latest update it’s 500, which makes me wonder if the plugin still works at all.
