yoast SEO %% variables not working

right click and check meta description it will be —- “Archive – ”

in back end , titles and metas->post types->Custom Post Type Archives->listings . it is set as Archive – %%category%%

but even if we choose any category from drop down. it is not showing up. it used to work before

Only individual items can be assigned to categories so the plugin outputs no category as an archive page cannot be assigned to a category.

ok. Any solution?
