    Hi,

I’m having an issue with the WP Customizer Preview screen giving me a screen with saying it has been redirected too many times. I’ve uploaded to URL https://snag.gy/CKz5pL.jpg.

I disabled all plugins within my site, refreshed the preview screen and it started working again. One by one i activated my plugins again and it’s the Yoast SEO plugin which causes the customizer preview to fail. I’ve deactivated and refreshed 3 times now and when i turn the Yoast SEO plugin off, the preview works, as soon as I reactivate it and refresh, it fails again.

I have Version 5.6.1 of the plugin. I have version 4.8.2 of WP.

Any suggestions on how I rectify this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi,

We are not sure why that is happening. Do you happen to have the premium version of the Yoast SEO plugin? If so, please submit a ticket to [email protected]

If not, then Yoast should not be cause it as the free version of Yoast does not include any redirect features. We would suggest the following actions:

    A. Clearing the cache from your browser, theme, plugin, server, and CDN (such as Cloudflare) then activating the plugin.

    B. Confirm that the issue does or does not happen with another browser such as FireFox or Chrome.

    C. Confirm that all browser plugins have been disabled.

    D. Confirm that the server is correctly configured. Your host provider can let you know.

    Hi,

I am using the free version of the plugin.

I have cleared my local browser cache, and cleared my site caching. Not using CDN.

I am using Google Chrome and have checked the same issue in Firefox and get the same issue. Can view the preview in Customizer when plugin is deactivated, but once I activate it and go back in, I get following error:
    ———————————————–
    The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.
    ———————————————–

If it’s giving the same error in both browsers, not sure how browser plugins would be linked as would be different in the different browsers.

It has been working for at least 2 years so I don’t see how the server would not be configured correctly.

    Hi @thetraininglady,

Can you please check if you’ve enabled the “Redirect ugly URLs to clean permalinks” feature under SEO > Advanced > Permalinks? Our developers are currently investigating a bug where the Theme Customizer doesn’t load when this feature is enabled. If you have further information or would like to follow the progress of the report, you can do that here: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/6637

FYI : Yes I did have “Redirect ugly URLs to clean permalinks” enabled and have now disabled it and the Theme Customizer is now working again.
    Thank you.
