My problem started when Facebook wasn’t showing image previews of my site. So I used the debug tool https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ and the result is: I’m missing the fb:app_id – Open Graph tags.

I created a facebook app, which I have already verified IT IS ONLINE/PUBLISHED (not in development mode). Also I checked https://graph.facebook.com/<APP_ID> and my ID IS VALID.

I’m trying to add my Facebook APP ID to Yoast in the Social/ FB section. And it keeps telling me that it doesn’t exist.

I know It’s not an obligation to set up the ID in Yoast but it seems to be the only way to get the image previews fixed.

    Thanks for the help

The APP ID does not impact whether or not Facebook displays images in the preview. I checked a random post on your site and checked the Open Graph image. Facebook returns this error:

Provided og:image URL, https://YOURSITE/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/claqueta-1024x692.jpg could not be processed as an image because it has an invalid content type.

This typically means the image is not formatted correctly and Facebook cannot use it.

Temporarily set the Open Graph image to a different image ( this image is properly formatted ) under the Social tab of the Yoast SEO for the individual page/post/article and force update Facebook’s cache of the page.

    Does that image work?

I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong with that image because it seems to be properly formatted. I changed it twice and it keeps returning that error.

Anyway, the problem is not just with that post, it is with every post and the main site. I checked others using the debug tool and I’m not having the Invalid content type error. I just get the missing fb:app:_id.

How can I get the APP ID accepted?

    Thanks for the response.

Facebook warns about the missing app ID but this does not cause the issue you described. The issue is caused by either a bad image or a server/host setting that causes incorrect image format.

If you download this image, upload it to your site, and set it as the Facebook image for a post/page, does Facebook show an image? You may need to force Facebook to update their cache a few times.

If that image works, the issue is related to the image(s) you are using on your site. Please choose an image that is properly formatted.

If that image fails, the issue is likely a server/host issue. Please contact your webhost.
