I’m using WP2social auto publish to publish my posts to my page in Facebook.
Somehow didn’t my photos get published, instead my main photo was on everything..
    see
    Screenshot

I’ve found out after few (many) hours that this is the image selected in your plug-in to be posted if there isn’t any photos available when a link is posted to Facebook.

When I’m removing the picture or disabling the Facebook open thingie on your plug-in I’ll get this:

    Screenshot

    But!
If I disable the whole Yoast as a plug-in, then I’m getting this:
    Screenshot

And now it suddenly works without any issues..

I removed this post because I thought I was mistaken when blaming Yoast, but when I re-tested everything, I discovered that it indeed was Yoast fault

  • Hi,

We would like some more information.

    1. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.4.1? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider.?Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/.

    2. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    3. Can you confirm you are using the most recent Yoast SEO, v14.2? If you update, does the issue resolve?

    4. Can you please re-active Yoast on your site if you disabled it and provide us a URL that highlights the issue you are having? Please also let us know what image you are expecting Facebook to show.

    Thread Starter Jellico

    (@catsfoto1se)

    @pcosta88 1,2,3 Yes.

    4. See https://www.facebook.com/Rainbowpets.org/

The last 4 posts there are available.
The title describe which is which.

In the Yoast settings you can choose a picture to be attached if your post don’t have any. If I select a photo there, it will always be displayed on my posts. As you can see on the pinned post (that photo was the one I put in your settings)
When I removed that one, the other “white”photo as you can see was attached. And when I disabled Yoast, you can see the photo it was suppose to be, a feather…

    Hi,

We are confused. Everyone of the pages: https://rainbowpets.org/yoast-running-but-social-disabled/ and https://rainbowpets.org/test-yoast-running-but-social-disabled-auto-post-reauth/ and https://rainbowpets.org/yoast-completely-disabled-auto-not-reauth/and https://rainbowpets.org/testing-autopublish-to-facebook/ is a 404.

We would like some more information.

    1. Are you trying to share a 404 page to Facebook?

    2. Can you please re-activate Yoast on the site and then provide us with an active URL that has the issue? We ask as we are not seeing Yoast active on your website and pages that are 404 do not have good information.

An active URL usually gives us some information to work off of to help troubleshoot.

    (@catsfoto1se)

@pcosta88 ops, I’m so sorry for the 404, I had the posts removed after they failed at Facebook. I have restored them so they will work now.
I have also activated Yoast again..

    Hello @catsfoto1se

We checked on the posts and they are now loading, but don’t have any relevant open graph tags such as og:image for us to check on this further.

Would it be possible for you to enable Yoast SEO for WordPress v14.2, create a new post or page with the relevant image that you are expecting and try to manually share it on Facebook (and not using the WP2social auto publish feature) and see if you can then get the expected image, title, and description?

    Thread Starter Jellico

    (@catsfoto1se)

    @mikes41720 hi!

Well that works, it has always worked.
I just manually shared an old post and one I just created, both are being displayed on Facebook.
The issue I’m having is that Yoast is blocking the auto post as I previously mentioned.

    @catsfoto1se

I see, thanks for confirming this. The open graph tags feature from Yoast SEO works like this. If you define a certain og:image for that specific post (in the social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box), it will use that image when you manually share it on Facebook or said social media platform. If there isn’t an image defined in the meta box, it will use the featured image or one of the images from the post itself. If there are no images in the post itself, it would then use the default image you’ve set under SEO > Social > Facebook Tab.

We’re not sure how the WP2social auto publish plugin works with the open graph tags that are being outputted by Yoast.

Just to clarify, if you create a new post or page, and then define an og:image in the social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box, and then click publish, the WP2social will also share this on Facebook, and instead of getting the defined image in the social preview, it will use the default image under SEO > Social > Facebook, which is not what you want, correct?

    Thread Starter Jellico

    (@catsfoto1se)

I’ve never specified an og:media in the media file, the wp2social handles that when I’m posting.

Wp2social is forcing an og tag upon publishing to Facebook, and somehow does Yoast interfere with it.

The users who are going to post on this site will never see these things, they will only fill out a form, and it’s done..

There must be someway to tell Yoast to ignore it and leave the function to wp2social.

    Hello @catsfoto1se

Thank you for getting back to us. If that’s the case, and you would still like to use the Yoast SEO plugin but disable the open graph tags output, you can certainly do that. You can head to your WP admin dashboard > SEO (sidebar) > Social > Facebook Tab > and set the option of ‘add open graph meta data’ to ‘disabled’ and then save the changes. The open graph tags should no longer output from the Yoast SEO plugin and would solely be from the WP2social plugin.

    (@catsfoto1se)

Thank you @mikes41720 for the help, I think I understood how it works now..

    Thread Starter Jellico

    (@catsfoto1se)

Ok @mikes41720, I’ve been testing a lot now, and I found that Yoast, when og function is activated, displays ANY photo prior to the correct one.

If I’ve got a photo selected in “display if no photo is found” photo, it will be displayed.

I also found the strange white “photos” was actually images in popups that where in the page, and when scraping from Facebook developer api, I found that those photos was specified in the og data (the popup, not the published photo)

First after removing any other photos in the post page, it worked, however, another issue has appeared.

This info is from Facebook scraper

    Input URL	arrow-right	https://rainbowpets.org/testing-testing-7/
    og:url Meta Tag	arrow-right	https://rainbowpets.org/?p=4716
    301 HTTP Redirect	arrow-right	https://rainbowpets.org/testing-testing-7/
    og:url Meta Tag	arrow-right	https://rainbowpets.org/?p=4716

And that shows on a conflict between my urls from the og urls, that’s causing an infinitive loop
    That must be a bug?

.. Now I need a break, 40 posts and over 100 api calls, I’m dead tired!

    Hello @catsfoto1se

Thank you for digging further into this. However, we’re not sure how to reproduce this issue. Are you getting this using both the Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin (v14.3) and the wp2social plugin? Or just the Yoast SEO plugin? Are you doing manual sharing or is it still the auto-publish?

Is the issue you are getting that the Yoast SEO plugin always uses the ‘default’ image under the SEO > Social > Facebook section instead of the one that is specifically defined as the og:image in the Yoast SEO meta box when editing a specific post or page?

    Thread Starter Jellico

    (@catsfoto1se)

@mikes41720 good question, I’m going to remove WP2social and do some testing with only Yoast after work (about 12hours) and I’ll get back to you with the result..

    Plugin Support Michael Ti?a

    (@mikes41720)

    @catsfoto1se

If you only use the Yoast SEO plugin and no other plugins that would affect the open graph tags, and then try to manually share them, it would definitely be expected that the specific og:image tag (defined in the social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box when editing that post) would be the priority over the default image used in the SEO > Social > Facebook > Default Image URL.

    Thread Starter Jellico

    (@catsfoto1se)

Well @mikes41720, I wish I could say that I solved the issue, but there must be a gremlin somewhere..

This is what Facebook says when I’m using sharing debuggerSee screenshot

But when I’m using the function scraped url, (I’ll basicly see the source code if the page), there are no sign of the frog (the “replacement” photo from Yoast).
    I do however see:
    <meta property="og:image" content="https://usercontent.one/wp/rainbowpets.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0019-1024x680.jpg"> and that’s the right photo..
I don’t know if there are something to do with the address isn’t my own (varnish cache)..

And as you can see in the image, there’s a loop in the url.. which isn’t happening when Yoast is disabled..
