About 3 weeks ago my Yoast MetaBox disappeared from underneath my content on POSTS. I can see it when edited PAGES though. It happened out of nowhere. It literally just disappeared from my post as I was looking at the screen. So I didn’t change any settings that would have made this happen. I tried everything suggested by Yoast on other posts where people were having this issue.(JQuery plugin, updated plugins, new theme, etc…..) I even tried a previous version of WordPress. Nothing helps.

My wife (another admin on my site) is able to see Yoast MetaBox on her account. But for some reason the ASTRA settings box also appeared right above the Yoast MetaBox as well instead of in the Sidebar.

I talked with my hosting company (A2 Hosting) and they suggested I try creating a new account since my account and my wife’s account have identical settings. I created a new account and it works great. Yoast MetaBox is under my content. And the ASTRA settings are on the sidebar. I DO NOT want to continue with that new account for various reasons. I want to stay with my main account that I started my website with.

A2 Hosting believes it’s a bug with the Yoast plugin. Do you know how I can get this resolved? I’m new to wordpress and I’m afraid if I delete Yoast it’ll screw up my posts or other settings.

  • Hi @seedsandspades ,

We are sorry to hear about the issue you’re having. That’s a very odd issue. There might be something on your profile that’s preventing the meta box from showing. On your profile, can you please confirm if Show SEO settings for Posts is set to Show under SEO > Search Appearance > Content Types > Posts?

By the way, the changes made to your plugin are saved in your database so deleting and re-installing Yoast SEO won’t lose your settings.

Did you get my reply through email?

If not, this is what I said..

On my profile I don’t see anything that says “Show SEO Settings”.? The only thing under my profile related to yoast is attached. I sent a picture of what I see.? Theyre both unchecked.? ?

As far as Search appearance, yes, its set to show on Posts and Pages.? Both are the same settings, but Yoast is only showing when i try to edit Pages.? I turned them on and off. And deleted cache. And nothing helps.??

I don’t think its a settings issue. The Yoast Metabox literally disappeared from my screen as I was looking at it. Its only showing on the sidebar now. I tried every suggestion from Yoast that was given to other people having issues with it not being in the metabox. Nothing works. Should I delete yoast and reinstall It?

    Hi @seedsandspades ,

Thank you for the response. Can you please try the following before trying to re-install the plugin?

-Click on the 3 dots (More Tools and Options) See screenshot here.
    -Click on Options. Screenshot here.
-Make sure Yoast SEO is checked under Advanced Panels. See here.

Yes, I’ve already done that. Its checked. As I’ve said, my settings are 100% identical to my wife’s account. When I create a new account, it works fine too. The yoast Metabox disappeared as I was looking at the screen. I didn’t change any settings or uncheck boxes.

I also deleted and reinstalled Yoast. Like you said, my setting were all the same. As if I didn’t delete it at all. But unfortunely my account also is still not working with Yoast.

I’m also having issues with the colored dots(for readability etc..) The All Posts screen shows many are red. But when I click on the actual Edit Post, the edit screen shows theyre all green. Why??

Also my internal link counter for Yoast is giving wrong numbers. Example: one post i have shows I have 4 internal links going to that post. But I actually have 0 posts linking to it. Is this all normal?

    Hi @seedsandspades,

Thank you for the information and your reply.

    As you mentioned:

The Yoast Metabox literally disappeared from my screen as I was looking at it. It’s only showing on the sidebar now.

We would like to see what you see when you use your original account. You can share a screenshot using a service like Snipboard.

I’m also having issues with the colored dots(for readability etc..) The All Posts screen shows many are red. But when I click on the actual Edit Post, the edit screen shows they’re all green. Why??

The analysis only runs when you are on the editing screen, not on the post overview screen. Is this happening on old posts/pages? If so, please know that we are continuously improving both our SEO and readability analysis.

Additionally to the above, it can also be a caching issue. Are you using any site or serverside caching? If so, please try to clear the cache and see if that resolves the difference in results.

Also my internal link counter for Yoast is giving wrong numbers. Example: one post i have shows I have 4 internal links going to that post. But I actually have 0 posts linking to it. Is this all normal?

No, this is not expected. Can you please check under SEO → Tools if you can run the Text Link Counter?

Ok, I’ve attached 3 links. One on the Edit Post page. The other from my User profile. The last one is SEO -> Tools link counter results

And I’ve cleared my cache with W3 Total Cache. That didnt help.

We are aware of a reported issue with Gutenberg where the meta boxes under the content can be pushed to the sidebar, sometimes accidentally. In short, the under content and sidebar list of boxes appear to be a single list.

Luckily, you can drag and drop the meta boxes between the sidebar and under the content. Additionally, you can use the up/down arrows (image) to move between the sidebar and under content areas. In some cases, you may need to have at least one meta box available to move the boxes between the two areas.

Screenshot: https://pasteboard.co/JpHnJRw.png (see below for more details)

    • Make sure you are in the correct sidebar. The gear icon (1) should be selected and you should be in the ‘Document’ (2) section.
    • Make sure you move the correct panel. The top ‘Yoast SEO’ (3) panel cannot be moved. Scroll down and look for the second ‘Yoast SEO’ (4) with the up/down arrows.
    • If the ‘up’ arrow is gray, enable the ‘Custom fields’ or another meta box. You can do this under the kebab (three dot) menu (5) > Options.
    • Be patient. It may take a little trial and error to determine which option works best for you.

    Hi @seedsandspades,

Thanks for the screenshots. For the internal linking issue, can you send us a URL with internal links where this problem is happening?

Yoast is now under my content! Thank you so much. That was so unbelievably frustrating.

For the internal link issues, here is a link to one of the sites that have an issue. Yoast says there are 3 internal links linking to that post. But i have zero posts linking to it. Actually all my posts are wrong. Some posts have multiple internal links pointing to a post, but Yoast says there are zero or some other number that’s wrong.

Ok, but if that’s the case, then my other posts should also show many internal links pointing to them as well. Below is an example. It’s also linked from the Home page, Product-review page, and About pages. Just like the example above that I sent you. But Yoast says I have 0 internal links pointing to this….

We looked at the homepage of the relevant website and see the https://www.seedsandspades.com/pine-straw/ page links are pointing from the “Latest Lawn & Garden Guides” and “Popular Posts” section.

It looks like both of the relevant sections are dynamic widgets or functionalities from your theme and you haven’t added the relevant page link https://www.seedsandspades.com/pine-straw/ from the homepage content area.

Please note that Yoast SEO cannot detect any content, nor links outside of the content area. So, you’ll need to add the relevant page links https://www.seedsandspades.com/pine-straw/ from the homepage manually from the content area to make sure that Yoast SEO can detect it.

The same thing is true for the “About” page where you have added the https://www.seedsandspades.com/pine-straw/ page link from the dynamically generated blog posts gallery.

And we could not find the https://www.seedsandspades.com/pine-straw/ page link in the “Product Reviews” page.

We hope this points you in the right direction!

    Thread Starter seedsandspades

    (@seedsandspades)

I’m confused. You say that Yoast can’t detect links outside of the content area. Like widgets for popular posts. But a few messages ago, when I was asking about the link “Tools Used for Gardening”, you said there were links from my Homepage, About Page, and Product-Review Page. But those links are widgets. I have NO content on those pages that link to my “Tools Used for Gardening” post. They just show up on popular post widgets.

My post on pine-straw has no internal links pointing to it either. THere are just widgets that give a link to that post if it’s a popular post.

    Hi,

You identified several issues. We have responded to them below.

    A. But a few messages ago, when I was asking about the link “Tools Used for Gardening”, you said there were links from my Homepage, About Page, and Product-Review Page. But those links are widgets.
We apologize. We are not familiar with how those pages were structured. We now understand the links are in widgets. As Yoast is not able to detect internal links in widgets or menu items, the 3 internal links that point to https://www.seedsandspades.com/tools-used-for-gardening/ are being generated through some other method. See, b below.

B.For the internal link issues, here is a link to one of the sites that have an issue. Yoast says there are 3 internal links linking to that post. But i have zero posts linking to it. Actually all my posts are wrong. Some posts have multiple internal links pointing to a post, but Yoast says there are zero or some other number that’s wrong.
We would like some more information.

    1. We had another recent release. Can you confirm you are using the most recent Yoast SEO, v14.9? If you update, does the issue resolve?

    2. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    3. Does clearing your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser resolve the issue? If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/

    4. We can see you are using Elementor on your site. Depending on how those Elementor modules have been embedded, Yoast may be detecting the internal links in those modules. Can you share a screenshot of how the pages like https://www.seedsandspades.com/about/ and https://www.seedsandspades.com/product-reviews/ are set-up on the backend?

    5. Are the links which point to https://www.seedsandspades.com/tools-used-for-gardening/ in an Elementor module? If so, which one?
