Yoast image xml sitemaps

Hello I wana ask that yoast say we should disable media attachment xml sitemap in one of its articles however a few people told me on google search console support forum that we need to enable media attachment to get our images indexed. What we are supposed to do as a best practice? I have enabled media attachment but all my images are being read by google as attachments, and it shows 0 images.
