Yoast error: file is blocking your XML sitemaps from working properly
-
I have the same problem that others have had.
FThe following file(s) is/are blocking your XML sitemaps from working properly: /var/www/vhosts/xxxx.com/httpdocs/sitemap.xml Either delete them (this can be done with the "Fix it" button) or disable Yoast SEO XML sitemaps.
Indeed, I had created and uploaded a file called sitemap.xml, but I deleted it as soon as I saw this conflict. The error persists though. Sadly, I don’t recall whether I initially used the Fix button or removed it via FTP myself.
On the other sites I work on, all is well, including on the other site where I had put another sitemap by the same name. But one one important site, this error persists through every Yoast update.
Two people at two locations have used 3 FTP programs with 2 different OSes to verify that the offending file is no longer there. It has been gone for months. In fact, there is no such file anywhere in this site.
We have each created this page and uploaded it to let Yoast SEO fix the problem. I then click Fix it and watch as the file disappears. But the error returns.
Yoast SEO Version 3.3.4
I am debating whether to uninstall Yoast, and do a reinstall but I don’t want to have to add all the SEO that I have done within the Yoast fields. Will that all be gone if I uninstall Yoast? Can anyone from Yoast give me advice?
And is there a way to know whether the Yoast-generated site maps are actually being seen and used regardless of the error?
I have tried to solve this myself for a month before posting this.
Hope I can get some answers.
Thanks.
