    Yoast disappeared from my plugins.

    I cannot access it.

It no longer appears in the navigation column on the left.

When I try to reinstall it, it says the file already exists and cannot proceed.

All I have done is update the WP files as was requested by WP.

    Very, very strange.

This typically happens when a file is corrupt or missing. Please manually update the Yoast SEO plugin via FTP. Alternatively, you can delete the Yoast SEO plugin folder via FTP and then reinstall from the plugin dashboard.

How can I update my (free) plugin?

Note: if using the ‘Pro’ version or the news add-on:

I previously reported an issue with this if your wp-content folder has been renamed and is in a folder, like

    /news/wp-content/plugins/

    changing to

    /news/assets/plugins/

even when specified in the wp-config.php file, this had an issue where the updater would delete old folder or partially, then fail on writing new one.

Since then, I have chosen to always install the Pro or News add-ons via FTP.

If you’re using the free version in the WP repository and getting this issue, it’s more often a permissions issue, server temp overload (not enough memory allocated to php, or even the process time limit), etc.

Not sure that helps, but just some feedback since I run about 20 copies of both free, pro, and news add-ons with both http and https.
