I changed the category base from the default ‘category’ to ‘numbers.’ In sitemap_index.xml Yoast continues to link to a category-sitemap.xml which is now non-existent and generating 404 error. At the same time, Google Search Bot is generating lots of 404 errors as it searches for a sitemap called numbers-sitemap.xml.

Is there a known issue with Yoast having problems when the category base is changed?

Oddly enough I also changed the tag base, however Yoast continues to generate a post_tag-sitemap.xml file that correctly contains the new base.

Depending on various options and circumstances I’ve found it preferable to use a separate sitemap plugin (BWP Sitemap) for some of my sites. Yoast’s sitemap feature continues to work great for other of my sites.
