• I need to enable a plug-in, but when I log into the admin account, there is no link to manage plugins. I searched the forum archives and found a few promising articles with hints and tricks to try, but nothing panned out. I am running on my own server that is under my own control, but this was a site developed by another party and this is my first experience with WordPress. So I am definitely a newbie.

Thanks in advance for any advice on how I can get the plug-ins menu visible so I can activate a new plugin.

Here is one more clue: When I try to access the plugins page directly (e.g. https://mysite/wp-admin/plugins.php ) I get the following message:

You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.

    Hope that helps,

Solved my own problem. So I am posting the resolution for other newbies to find later. When these old hands on the forum ask you if you are logging in as admin – They are being very literal – and very unclear. It is NOT enough to log in as a user with “admin” privileges(like my personal account). You really have to log in as the user named “admin”.

Since a third party created my site, I did not have the password for the “admin” account. So I had to change it through phpMyAdmin and then log in. Viola – plugin menu appears!

Hope this helps someone else in the future,
