Upgraded the plug-in yesterday, and it broke my entire web site.

All I get when I try to view my site is a blank white page. The Error Log complains of finding “[” characters in the lib/Plugins.php file. This occurs in many places. I tried to disable several, but ended up just removing the plugin, which means only parts of my site (the slide shows) are broken instead of the whole site being down.

My ISP provides PHP version 5.3.28. The PHP version available is not something I have control over.

I reverted to Portfolio Slideshow 1.5.1 (as suggested in at least one of the other threads about this problem) and things work again.

    Hey @davidwoods,

I’m sorry for the trouble here. The trouble with the “[” is odd because that should work fine in version 5.3 of PHP…weird!

I left other notes on your Review that I will leave here as well –?I do hope that you can try upgrading to 1.10.0, and while you mention not having control over your PHP version, if you haven’t already I’d recommend contacting their customer support and asking for a version increase. Many hosts can offer higher versions of PHP but just don’t by default unless folks ask. You never know! Now, as for my comments from your review:

I’m really sorry to hear that this caused such an annoyance for you.

I’d like to mention that I just published a 1.10.0 release that should fix the problems related to slideshow images not appearing and such.

I wrote about the release a bit here → https://portfolioslideshow.com/release-1-10-0/

As for the plugin “breaking your entire site”, this is not something I’ve heard any other reports of and indicates other issues on your site. Did any PHP errors display on your site?

Finally, for now, PHP 5.4 is not required – 5.3 is, so it should work on your hosting environment.

Just some thoughts – please share more of yours here and hopefully you can find the plugin useful on your site again.

    Hey @davidwoods,

Just to update this thread, I wanted to note that I’ve released Portfolio Slideshow version 1.11.1 about an hour ago – it’s the most stable version yet, and it’s been tested thoroughly. It works well for me and many other users, and resolves a number of issues that have come up on these support forums in recent weeks and months, including the errors you originally reported here.

Try it out if you’re still using (or are still interesting in using) Portfolio Slideshow – and let me know know if it works any better!

    Cheers!
    George
