XML Question

  • I thought I had assigned the admin posts to another user before deleting, but it seems I’ve screwed up my db. Lost all posts.
    Fortunately, I had a backup of old posts. I thought I’d just open in a text editor and paste my missing-in-action posts back into my current xml export, and restore.

    The tables look the same, but the backup posts from version 2.6 or 2.7 looks different than the lines in version 2.7.1.

    In old backup (2.6 or 7) , every line began
    “INSERT INTO wp_posts VALUES(111, 1,…”
    While the current export shows the “INSERT INTO…” text along the top, and then each line begins with “(111,1)…” the post number and user I’m assuming.

    Can I restore my lost posts by following the current format (2.7.1 export) and move all admin posts over (changing the id# of course), or is my plot doomed to fail?
