• Hi
I have 2 blogs and I would like import everything to my new blog.
I exported an XML file from the WP 2.9.2 admin panel from my old blog.
When I try to import the XML, the import dialog asks my about the old user who wrote the blog entries but in the end it just imports 1 (one!) entry! Nothing else.
    Is it a known problem?
I tried the export and import with Safari and Firefox! I doubt that it is a browser problem.

    Thanks in advance

  • I’ve heard that if you run the import multiple times it will eventually import the rest of the info.

I tried it a few times and it just imports 1 entry at a time
it would take ages to import all entries when i have to upload the 2mb xml file for each entry…. ??

I’m preparing for the same issue. I have a client who wants me to move a site that is a few years old and has hundreds of entries from wordpress.com to self-hosted. I’m also trying to figure out how (or if) the images get copied to the new site. The last time I tried this, it didn’t work. It was a small site though and I ended up copying & pasting everything.

If your new site is on the same server as the old one and you are changing the domain name, you can just re-use the old database.

You may be able to make the new domain name point to the same folder on the server. Otherwise you can copy the old WP files to the new folder and there are instructions in the Codex for Changing The Site URL.

XML import normally downloads the attachments.

Thanks @extatix. I’ve only tried the XML export/import routine once before and the only thing that was imported was the category info.

I do it several times a month. Backing up my main blog on a local copy.

I don’t want to change the site url!
The old blog will stay online and I want to import everything to a new blog. Delete some blog entries and keep most entries.

    @extatix
do you just export the xml and import it again?
do your blogs run on your own webspace?

Just throwing it out there since I’m not clairvoyant.

You may be able to use the Feed WordPress plugin to pull the content from one site to the other.

This plugin might also be worth checking out

    Import WordPress 1.x

Unfortunately nobody has rated it and it hasn’t been updated in a long time.

    @ ToxicMelvin

    Yes, export and import.

My blogs run on my own webspace.
