• Hello,

    I am trying to move my blog from wordpress.com to www.remarpro.com. The instructions for moving a site seem very simple, but I keep getting error messages when I am trying to import the XML file from my old wordpress.com site. They look something like this;

    Failed to import post tag
    Failed to import post tag
    Failed to import post tag
    Failed to import post tag
    Failed to import post tag
    Failed to import post tag
    Failed to import post tag…

    Media “100” already exists.
    Media “62” already exists.
    Media “90” already exists.
    Media “14” already exists.

    My XML file is only 2.6MB. When I am uploading the file to www.remarpro.com I assign the authors and check the import attachments box as prompted before hitting upload. My www.remarpro.com is hosted through bluehost (not sure if that is important).

    Thank you,
    Katy

    Hi Katy,

    Hmm, that is odd. Do you see any imported stuff that’s perhaps in your drafts (or trash) instead of “live”? If nothing at all imported, I would recommend trashing the XML file you currently are using, and download a fresh copy from WordPress.com, and trying once more.

    I tried downloading fresh XML files a couple times, but each time I had the same result. Although none of my posts transferred I did notice that a few of my photos were in the media library of my .org site. However there were many photos missing.

    The ” already exists” messages are appearing because you have tried to run this import a number of times. The only way to remove theme is to delete all images & attachments from your Media Library. However, even at 2.6MB, that import file might be too big to carry out an import in one huge step. Try breaking the file down into smaller sub-1MB files using something like https://www.rangerpretzel.com/content/view/20/1/
