• Hi Folks,

I have had a look and there seem to be plenty of people having problems with this one… I tried all the ‘remedies’ to get this going again, but still can’t get the ‘Visual’ tab and the associated ‘toolbar’ to appear. I even did a fresh install, after removing all the files and folders (except for the ‘content’ folder, and after de-activating all the plugins except Akismet. WordPress-Move trashed and ‘white-paged’ a 70-odd post blog with loads of images, so I had to start all over again.

Needless to say, I do have a good copy on my localhost running MAMP, and I’m tediously copying and pasting everything over. For this, the text mode is good, but when I want to post a new blog (generally with lots of pictures), I don’t want to have to generate it on the localhost and then copy it over to the live host every time.

Interesting is that the text editor is also the only one available on the iPhone WP-portal, too! I’ve tried everything put forward up to now, all to no avail, including new users with Admin rights etc.

HELP!! Anyone got a real tip that works on this one??

    Thanks, Peter

  • This is beginning to sound like there’s a problem with the server’s configuration. Is there anything in the site’s error log that might help? Especially on the new site.

And how (or where), please, would I find that out?? I have already notified their support regarding this. The classicbikenut site works fine as far as it goes, just without the wysiwig, which, compared to the other ones, is peanuts! My humble opinion is that there seems to be a problem with the actual installation process, whether of my doing or not. All permissions are set correctly on the server, and still I keep on getting unexplained errors, the installation/upload of themes doesn’t work…

    Very frustrating! Yeah!

Are you installing WordPress manually> If so, are you following the instructions in Installing_WordPress and using a fresh database and fresh download of WordPress each time?

Yes, manually. fresh download, fresh database, new user etc as administrator… delete any files that were there first (there were actually none there in the first place, but for the second installation…) FTP upload to new folder etc. rename to config, save as config, enter database/user data, generate the keycodes, paste them in, save again… I’m getting quite a routine for this…

Still the same crap. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but I follow the directions explicitly.

Then it has to be a server-related problem. Have you spoken to your hosts about this? Did anything change on the server just before you began to have this problem?

They are working on it from their end. They have been able to replicate my problem, so are working on it. Considering that WP is ‘industry standard’, it’s difficult to reconcile it not working on their installations, and I’m amazed that this hasn’t raised its ugly head before…

Thanks for all your input, this must be a real PITA to you, sorry.
Up to now, for them this has been a WP ‘third party software’ issue, and I should ‘address the forum’ and WP support etc. I believe now to have proven that it’s their issue to, at least partway, put their house in order before pointing the finger…

Will let you know what happens! Ciao for now! Peter
