• Hi Folks,

I have had a look and there seem to be plenty of people having problems with this one… I tried all the ‘remedies’ to get this going again, but still can’t get the ‘Visual’ tab and the associated ‘toolbar’ to appear. I even did a fresh install, after removing all the files and folders (except for the ‘content’ folder, and after de-activating all the plugins except Akismet. WordPress-Move trashed and ‘white-paged’ a 70-odd post blog with loads of images, so I had to start all over again.

Needless to say, I do have a good copy on my localhost running MAMP, and I’m tediously copying and pasting everything over. For this, the text mode is good, but when I want to post a new blog (generally with lots of pictures), I don’t want to have to generate it on the localhost and then copy it over to the live host every time.

Interesting is that the text editor is also the only one available on the iPhone WP-portal, too! I’ve tried everything put forward up to now, all to no avail, including new users with Admin rights etc.

HELP!! Anyone got a real tip that works on this one??

    Thanks, Peter

Whoa, steady! Dummy alarm! How do I do that, please??!! ??

OK, so I’ll rename my Content folder, re-instate the naked folder sans plugins and activate 20-12 first, right?

Sorry – I thought you might have been given a link for this earlier. Have a look at resetting the plugins folder.

OK, done that. Original installation content pointed at, no plugins apart from Akismet (still active), no other plugins apart from Dolly (inactive) and 2012 activated. Still doesn’t work.

Do I still have to do that?? The only plugins there are the ones in the naked content folder, or not? I received warnings that the other plugins could not be found and were de-activated…

Yes. As I said, this is sometimes needed for especially vampiric plugins.

Plugins dead. Relod ‘edit’ page after flushing cache. Fush cache and reload again.

    Still no joy!!

I also tried Chrome, Opera and Safari. All the same

On some hosting environments, aggressive settings for the “mod_pagespeed” addon can break the javascript code and cause scripts to not be able to function. This can cause many problems, such as widgets not working, menus not being draggable, the customizer not working, or the media screens not being available.

To fix the issue, you will need to disable mod_pagespeed, or adjust its settings to not take effect in the wp-admin directories. You may need to ask your hosting service for help on how to do this.

OK! I’ll do that and let you know! Thanks a ton! Peter

    Hello.

I got hold of the hosting service, they don’t use mod_pagespeed at all!

    ??

Can you set up a fresh install of WordPress in a new database somewhere on the same domain?

    Thread Starter ClassicBikeNut

    (@classicbikenut)

That would be difficult… in a subdirectory, perhaps? What difference would that possibly make?? Would be worth a try, if you think that it would make any difference – why should it make a difference?? Top level or sub-directory runs on the same server…
    Please elaborate?
    Thanks, Peter

    in a subdirectory, perhaps?

Yes – that’s exactly what I meant. I think we need to see if this problem is specific to the server or to your current site. A completely default installation in a subdirectory should answer that question. The fact that it’s in a subdirectory won’t matter in terms of whether the Visual editor is available or not.

I tried a subdirectory, even less works. No icons for the normal html shortcuts and the file upload/media doesn’t even try to work.

A complete disaster. Installed fresh, new databases on two different sites, neither of them work and although file premissions are all there, no theme installations or downloads possible. I have no idea what’s happening.
